PPCB holds nukkad natak on “Combat Plastic Pollution” at Jalandhar City railway station on World Environment Day

Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), Regional Office-1, Jalandhar, organized a Nukkad Natak (Street Play) at the Railway Station, Jalandhar City, in collaboration with officials from the Indian Railways

Jalandhar, June 5,2025 (The Hind Canadian Times) :  On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), Regional Office-1, Jalandhar, organized a Nukkad Natak (Street Play) at the Railway Station, Jalandhar City, in collaboration with officials from the Indian Railways. The awareness campaign was conducted under this year’s global theme, “Combat Plastic Pollution,” with the aim of sensitizing the public on the harmful impacts of single-use plastic (SUP) and encouraging sustainable alternatives.

The Nukkad Natak was performed by enthusiastic NCC cadets from SD College for Women, Jalandhar, known for their vibrant youth and dramatics club. The performance creatively conveyed the message of environmental conservation, highlighting the dangers of plastic pollution on ecosystems, public health, and infrastructure. During the play, strong emphasis was laid on completely avoiding single-use plastics (SUP) in daily life, Promoting eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth bags, biodegradable packaging, and reusable containers, encouraging citizens to actively participate in environmental protection by adopting simple lifestyle changes, and inspiring collective community action to tackle plastic waste at the grassroots level.

The street play drew the attention of numerous commuters and travelers present at the station, who appreciated the initiative and actively engaged with the performers and campaign organizers.

Following the Nukkad Natak, a rally was carried out within the station premises by the participating students, carrying colorful and thought-provoking posters advocating the reduction of plastic use and promoting green alternatives. The rally added vibrancy and further amplified the message of the campaign among the general public.

Under the guidance of Environmental Engineer Sandeep Kumar, the entire program was meticulously coordinated and conducted by Er. Manpreet Singh Jaura (AEE) and Er. Manraj Singh Randhawa (AEE)  of Regional Office-1, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Jalandhar.

Both officers actively interacted with the commuters and participants, emphasizing the urgency of addressing plastic pollution and encouraging responsible waste management practices.

This campaign is part of PPCB’s broader strategy to mark World Environment Day by initiating impactful public outreach programs across Punjab, especially in high-footfall public areas and educational institutions. Through such collaborative efforts with academic and government institutions, PPCB aims to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and action among citizens.
