SWACHHTA GYAN YATRA HELD AT RURKA KALAN TO PROMOTE YOUTH-LED SANITATION

Students tour waste management plants under Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 to become cleanliness ambassadors

Jalandhar, October 2- (The Hind Canadian Times) :
As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign, a "Swachhta Gyan Yatra" was organized at Rurka Kalan village in Jalandhar district to foster environmental consciousness among young citizens.
Conducted in coordination with the Youth Football Club (YFC), the awareness rally brought together students from the local Government Girls Senior Secondary School and Government Co-Ed School. During the exposure visit, students toured the village-level Solid Waste Management (SWM) and Liquid Waste Management (LWM) processing facilities. Officials briefed the participants on the operational mechanics of waste handling, emphasizing source segregation, wet and dry waste composting, recycling protocols, safe disposal methods, and efficient wastewater treatment to keep surroundings hygienic.

The interactive session sensitized students to the hazards of plastic pollution and littering, urging them to adopt responsible daily sanitation habits. Officials encouraged the visiting youth to step up as "Swachhta Ambassadors" and spread the core message of waste segregation and environmental stewardship across their families and neighborhood communities.

The initiative took place in the presence of key dignitaries, including Ms. Sevya Sharma, CDS (Sanitation); Gagandeep Singh Walia, ADSO, DWSS, Jalandhar; and Jaspreet Kaur from YFC, alongside school mentors and teachers. The event successfully underscored the role of youth-led behavioral change in driving sustainable sanitation practices.
