Mohinder Bhagat launches 11 development projects worth Rs 6.24 crore in the city

Says, initiatives will strengthen civic amenities and boost urban infrastructure across the city

Punjab Government allocates substantial funds to roll out new development projects across the district- Cabinet Minister


Jalandhar, Feb 3,2026 (The Hind Canadian Times) : Further strengthening civic amenities in the city, Punjab Horticulture and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat on Tuesday launched as many as eleven development projects at an outlay of Rs 6.24 crore aimed at upgrading roads, streets, public spaces and community facilities across Jalandhar.

Accompanied by Mayor Vineet Dhir, the Minister said the new initiatives would significantly improve urban infrastructure and help position Jalandhar as a leading district from the development standpoint. 

He asserted that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to taking urban development to new heights and added that there is no shortage of funds for public welfare works.

“These projects will provide improved civic amenities and a better quality of life for residents once completed,” Mr. Bhagat said, while interacting with officials and local residents during the launch ceremony.

The projects include the construction of various roads in C-Block at a cost of Rs 31.1 lakh, roads in Bhargo Camp and adjoining areas worth Rs 48.55 lakh, streets in Raj Nagar costing Rs 15.68 lakh and Rs 21.18 lakh, a street in Abadpura at Rs 15.5 lakh, and another near Harbans Nagar at Rs 20.49 lakh. In addition, various streets near Apna Park will be constructed at Rs 49.63 lakh, while a street in JP Nagar will be developed at Rs 44.14 lakh.

The Minister also laid the foundation stone for major projects, including chain fencing along the Bist Doaba Canal at a cost of Rs 3.28 crore. Two new public libraries — one near Baba Budha Mall Park and another on the 120-foot road — will be constructed at Rs 25 lakh each to promote educational and community activities.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Vineet Dhir said the state government is consistently focusing on projects that uplift urban infrastructure and ensure planned development of the city.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Mr. Bhagat said the works would soon stand as a testament to the vision of building a vibrant and progressive “Rangla Punjab,” while assuring residents of more development initiatives in the near future.
