HMV Celebrated International Mother Language Day

The Post Graduate Department of Punjabi and the Punjabi Sahit Sabha of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated International Mother Language Day

Jalandhar, Feb 21,2026 (The Hind Canadian Times) : The Post Graduate Department of Punjabi and the Punjabi Sahit Sabha of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated International Mother Language Day under the motivation of Principal Dr. Ekta Khosla and guidance of Dr. Navroop, Head of the Punjabi Department. The event was organised with great enthusiasm to highlight the significance of mother tongue and Punjabi language. On this occasion, poetry recitation and Punjabi idioms and proverbs competitions dedicated to Mother Language Day were held, in which around 130 students participated. Through their poetic expressions, the students beautifully presented their emotions and highlighted the importance of Punjabi as their mother tongue. The competitions also provided a platform to assess their linguistic proficiency and creativity. 

Principal Dr. Ekta Khosla  extended her greetings on International Mother Language Day to the students and faculty and encouraged everyone to preserve and promote their native language with dedication. She stated that Punjabi, as our mother tongue, is our true identity and must be spoken with pride and respect. She emphasised that Punjabi has established its distinct presence across the globe and is not merely a language but the very soul of our cultural existence. She also appreciated and motivated the participants for their enthusiastic involvement. Head of Department, Dr. Navroop Kaur told that the correct pronunciation of Punjabi, plays a vital role in keeping the language alive. She urged that we should wish for continuous growth and prosperity of the mother tongue.  

Mrs. Kuljit Kaur also congratulated the students on the occasion and inspired them to participate in such competitions. The winners were honoured with certificates and awards. Tanvi secured the first position, Harpinder Kaur stood second, and Mansukh Singh bagged the third position. Parminder Kaur received the appreciation prize. Students who have been actively contributing to the promotion of Punjabi language, literature and culture were also specially honoured. These included Nancy, Simran Kaur, Sharanjit Kaur, Harshdeep Kaur and Himanshi. Dr. Mandeep Kaur, In charge Punjabi Sahit Sabha conducted the proceedings of the programme and presented the vote of thanks. The event was graced by the presence of faculty members of the Punjabi Department, including Mrs. Satinder Kaur, Simranjit Kaur, Mandeep Kaur and Amanpreet Kaur.
