Lahore, 03 April 2025 (Ali Imran Chatha) : Maya, the wife of a Hindu resident of Sanghar, Pakistan, gave birth to a baby girl minutes after crossing the Attari international border. Part of a group of 149 Sindhi Hindus arriving from Pakistan’s Sanghar district via Wagah, she went into labour during Indian immigration. Authorities quickly completed her immigration formalities and she was taken to a private nursing home in Attari, where she gave birth to her tenth child, a girl, who joins her seven daughters and two sons. In a symbolic nod to her birthplace, the baby was named “Bharat”, which is derived from the Hindi name for India, “Bharat”. The incident was echoed on December 2, 2021, when another Pakistani Hindu, Nimbubai, gave birth to a boy named “Border Ram” at the same border. The group, who are travelling on visas to Haridwar, Delhi, Jodhpur and Ahmedabad, are expected to reach Jodhpur, where relatives live. Sources believe they are renouncing their Pakistani citizenship. Attari resident Vijay Verma, who visited the nursing home with sweets and blessings from Indian well-wishers, celebrated the birth and fostered a moment of warmth across the border. The girl's father said the baby girl is a symbol of friendship.
