India is going to celebrate "Republic Day" on 26 Jan

History of Indian Republic day

Republic Day in India is a national holiday annually celebrated on January 26, marking the entry into force of the Constitution of India on that day in 1950, with which India's transition to a sovereign democratic republic was marked. The roots of the Republic Day trace back to the two Indian Independence Acts of July 18, 1947, which ended British rule and transferred legislative authority to the Constituent Assembly of India.

The constituent assembly set up a drafting committee chaired by Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar for the preparation of the constitution of the country. 26 January was chosen as the date of promulgation of the constitution being the anniversary of Purna Swaraj resolution adopted by Indian National Congress on 26 January,1930.
