Intercity Transit Seeks Community Advisors to Help Shape Public Transportation Policies

OLYMPIA, Wash., Sept. 1, 2026 (The Hind Canadian Times) : — Intercity Transit Authority (ITA) is inviting civic-minded residents, workers and students of Thurston County to apply for positions on its Community Advisory Committee (CAC), offering community members an opportunity to help shape public transportation policies and services.

The CAC is a 20-member advisory body that provides feedback and recommendations on transit-related issues to the ITA and Intercity Transit staff. Selected members will have the opportunity to bring community perspectives to discussions involving the future of public transportation in the region. Members may also be eligible to receive a monthly stipend in recognition of their participation.

Nineteen CAC members serve three-year terms, while youth representatives serve one-year terms. Applicants must live, work or attend school in Thurston County.

Intercity Transit is encouraging people from a broad range of backgrounds and communities to apply, including transit riders, business owners, nonprofit representatives, students and other residents interested in strengthening public transportation.

Focus on Diversity and Community Representation

As part of its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, Intercity Transit is particularly seeking representation from:

Active-duty military members and veterans

Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC)

People living with disabilities

Individuals and families on fixed incomes

LGBTQ+ community members

Seniors

Youth

Residents of rural communities

The application deadline is Friday, Oct. 2, 2026.

Applicants selected for interviews should save Friday, Nov. 6, 2026, when interviews are tentatively scheduled to take place at the Olympia Transit Center.

About the Community Advisory Committee

CAC members are appointed by the Intercity Transit Authority and serve in an advisory capacity to the Authority and Intercity Transit staff.

The nine-member Intercity Transit Authority Board of Directors establishes policy and provides overall direction for the agency. The board includes elected representatives from the Thurston County Board of Commissioners and the cities of Lacey, Tumwater, Olympia and Yelm, along with a labor representative and three community representatives.

Intercity Transit said the CAC provides an important avenue for community members to share their experiences, perspectives and ideas as the region continues to address transportation needs.
