'Guard of Honour' marks grand Nagar Kirtan as sea of devotees pays tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib in Jalandhar

Nagar Kirtan dedicated to 350th Martyrdom Anniversary departs for Sri Anandpur Sahib amid unprecedented devotion

Cabinet Minister, Advisor Tourism Department, Chairman PADB, DC and CP bowed before Sri Guru Granth Sahib and prayed for 'Sarbat da Bhala'

Jalandhar, November 22- (The Hind Canadian Times) : A grand spiritual spectacle unfolded on Saturday morning as the Nagar Kirtan, dedicated to the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, received a ceremonious Guard of Honour from a contingent of Punjab Police upon its arrival at Guru Nanak Mission Chowk in Jalandhar city. The revered Nagar Kirtan, which entered the district at Friday midnight, resumed its onward journey at Saturday morning from Gurudwara Dera Santhgarh Sahib and proceeded towards Sri Anandpur Sahib through various parts of the city.

The event witnessed an extraordinary turnout, with a sea of devotees lining the route to offer their reverence. As the Nagar Kirtan advanced, the sangat showered flowers, recited Gurbani hymns, and bowed before Sri Guru Granth Sahib, turning the entire stretch into a moving expression of devotion and spiritual fervour.

Several dignitaries joined the holy Nagar Kirtan, including Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat, Mayor Vineet Dhir, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, Advisor to the Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department Deepak Bali, and Punjab Agriculture Development Bank Chairman Pawan Kumar Tinu. 

All paid obeisance before Sri Guru Granth Sahib and prayed for ‘Sarbat da Bhala’, seeking blessings for peace and universal welfare.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal and Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh accompanied the Nagar Kirtan until it left the district for SBS Nagar, acknowledging the discipline and devotion displayed by the sangat throughout the Nagar Kirtan.

Speaking on the occasion, Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat said the Punjab Government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib with unprecedented grandeur. A series of statewide events—including Nagar Kirtans, a Special Vidhan Sabha Session at Sri Anandpur Sahib, drone shows, and light-and-sound presentations—aims to spread Guru Sahib’s timeless message of peace and universal brotherhood. He emphasised that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom was a profound sacrifice for the protection of human rights and dignity, transcending all religious divides.

Likewise, Advisor Deepak Bali and Chairman Pawan Kumar Tinu urged devotees to follow Guru Sahib’s path of courage, compassion, and selfless service. Expressing gratitude, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal thanked the devotees for participating with full maryada and making the occasion spiritually enriching and historically meaningful.

Notably, the Nagar Kirtan had entered in Jalandhar on Friday night where MLA Kartarpur Balkar Singh paid obeisance before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Similarly, Advisor Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department Deepak Bali, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur had joined the Nagar Kirtan at Maqsudan Chowk upon its arrival in the city. After which, the Nagar Kirtan reached Gurudwara Dera Santgarh Sahib for night stay via Workshop Chowk, and Kapurthala Chowk.
