Deputy Commissioner issues strict directions to officers to shift stray and abandoned cattle from Jalandhar city to Gaushalas

Directions to complete the target by August 31

Jalandhar, July 23: (The Hind Canadian Times) : Taking an important step for the welfare of abandoned cattle and the safety of precious human lives, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today directed officers to ensure the shifting of abandoned cattle to Gaushalas by August 31.

Presiding over the meeting of the District Animal Welfare Committee and the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals held at the District Administrative Complex today, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized running this work in mission mode. He said that the objective of this step is to ensure the safety of public life and property along with proper care of abandoned cattle. On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Jasbir Singh and SDM Adampur Vivek Kumar Modi with additional charge of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) were also present.

To effectively tackle the problem of stray cattle, Dr. Aggarwal directed officers to take concrete steps including increasing the capacity of Gaushalas, enhancing the workforce, and making cattle owners aware. He also emphasized involving cattle owners and dairy owners in the SPCA. He instructed the Animal Husbandry Department officers to make cattle owners and dairy owners aware so that instead of abandoning animals that have stopped giving milk, they can send them to Gaushalas for proper care.

For the proper care of injured and sick cattle, the Deputy Commissioner announced the district administration’s helpline number 9646-222-555 and said that people can contact this number to give information about any injured or abandoned cattle. He said that upon receiving information, teams of the administration will make appropriate arrangements for the treatment and care of the sick or injured cattle.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding increasing the capacity of the Kannia Kalan Gaushala. The Deputy Commissioner asked the SDM Shahkot to send a proposal by July 31, 2025, so that further action regarding this can be taken. The progress of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program in the district and the collection of Cow cess were also reviewed during the meeting.

Assistant Director Animal Husbandry Dr. Balbir Singh, Dr. Kulvinder Singh, along with officers from Municipal Corporation Jalandhar and various other departments, were present in the meeting.
