Alexander Novak meets with Kazakhstani delegation

Moscow, 11 April 2025 (The Hind Canadian Times) : Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak met with Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Advisor to the President of Kazakhstan, and Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Erlan Akkenzhenov. The meeting was also attended by Minister of Energy Sergei Tsivilev, representatives of the Energy Ministries of Russia and Kazakhstan and the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Russian Federation.

“Relations with Astana is a Russian foreign policy priority. Despite the West’s continuing external pressure, Kazakhstan reaffirms its status of Russia’s closest ally and strategic partner. The dynamically developing relations are based on the highly intensive dialogue between Moscow and Astana, above all between the heads of state. Cooperation in trade, economic and investment spheres is successfully developing; large joint projects are being implemented in industrial cooperation, energy, transport infrastructure, agriculture and the digital economy,” Alexander Novak said. According to him, Russia is one of Kazakhstan's leading trade partners.

The parties discussed cooperation at OPEC+ and in the energy sector, including electricity, hydropower and renewable energy sources. Three coal-fired thermal power plants will be built in Kazakhstan in Kokshetau, Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk with the assistance of Russian specialists, and two power generating units at Ekibastuz GRES-2 will be renovated.

The talks also focused on increasing transit supplies of Russian oil and gas through Kazakhstan and the possible supplies of Russian gas to the north and northeast of the country. The parties also talked about Russian companies’ involvement in oil projects in Kazakhstan, possible cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy as well as financial and banking sector.
